TRANSLATION
The Consul General of the U.S.S.R. in New York
Everything that had to happen has happened
I am not an enemy.
I love and am sincerely devoted to my fatherland and my people.
I came here to work honestly and to win esteem and even greater
confidence than I had before. I loved the children infinitely and was
cheerful and enthusiastic in my work
My lessons were my nourishment
and the support which sustained me in my low spirits. Here under the
conditions of a capitalistic system I wanted again to prove my convictions,
and my devotion and love for our fatherland. My hatred for the traitors
3.
TRSNAR
to the fatherland weighed heavily upon me
TATIONAL
ARCHIVES AND
RECORDE
And now it seems as if I myself am in the situation of a traitor.
:
SERVICE"
But no, I have not betrayed my people, I have not become a traitor,
I have not committed any crime
And never, never in my life shall I go
against the dictatorship of the working class. My father is a worker. My
blood is his blood, but then what is this all about?
The reaction of the already undermined organism has set in. You
never considered it necessary to speak frankly with me. I was being laughed
at and told "why do you go around everywhere complaining? Everybody is
laughing at you 1 " You did not want to tell me the truth and at the same
time they continued to close in on me. Being completely innocent, I had
all sorts of thoughts
What is the reason for smearing me? After all,
I have not said anything, I have not stolen, and I have not killed anybody
Even the children's love for me and my mad love for the children have not
been spared. All the children have been incited against me. They threw
nails, books, screwdrivers, and pen holders, and all kinds of objects at me.
The thing that was dearest to me, the thing I lived by, was killed
