Subject: Transmittal of Background
Memoranda on Visit to the
United States of Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime
Minister of India
Under cover of this memorandum there is transmitted a
binder containing background material prepared in the
Department of State relating to the visit of His Excellency
Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime Minister of India, who is expected
to arrive in Washington on October 11. The memoranda in-
clude, among others, discussions on the importance of the
visit, India's place in Asia, the Prime Minister 's position
in India and a section of material on subjects which the
Prime Minister may wish to discuss with the President.
