My dear Mr. President:
It was a great pleasure for me to meet on May fourth
Mr. David Ben-Gurion, who carried with him your
gracious letter of greetings on the occasion of his first
visit to the United States while serving as Prime Minister
of Israel, This distinguished leader has inspired a warm
and sympathetic reception during his visit to our country.
I found Mr. Ben-Gurion's description of Israel's plans
and progress most interesting. As you know, the United
States is desirous of contributing to the peace, welfare
and stability of all of the states of the Near East. Israel,
as an important member of the Near East community,
will receive a share of any aid which this Government is
in a position to furnish,
1 am certain that in the third year of your nation's independ-
ence Israel will continue to make great strides in develop-
ment and production.
With kindest personal regards,
the
NATIONAL
Sincerely yours,
the SERVICE"
Sgd) HARRY S. TRUMAN

Chaim W eizmann
