Suggested Procedure - Meeting with Prime Minister

A. You may wish to open the discussion by welcoming the
Prime Minister to Washington and say:
The United States admires the progress that has been
made in Italy since your last visit here in 1947. We
in the United States admire the courage, patience and
wisdom with which you have led the Italian people through
this difficult period. I welcome the opportunity to
exchange views with you on matters which are of in-
terest to both our countries. I also welcome the
opportunity which that exchange and your visit here
provide to demonstrate once again the friendship that
links Italy and the United States.
B.
You may wish to say that you understand the Prime Min-
ister would be willing to comment on the general world
situation.
