- 12 - only 8,500 Jews ( of the prewar 75,000) remained 1 in Greece. As far as is known nothing has as yet been done to restitute Jewish properties to the rightful owners or heirs, and, as the cable 1 reported, "all Jewish communal life has been dis- rupted Those communities lack everything, including cemeteries, schools, and, in many cases, places of worship." In the light of relief requirements of the Jewish communities in Greece, it may be concluded that little has been done to reinstate the surviving Jews there to their former positions. There is as yet DO detailed information about restitution in Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, except for general pro- nouncements by the representative governments to the effect that Jews will be restored their rights, jobs, and property. 1. According to a cable to JDC dated April 6, 1945, from Athens.
