Truslow, President Rubber Development Corporation SUBJECT: Impossibility of Obtaining Natural Rubber Requirements unless Additional Rubber Areas Captured. DATE: June 15, 1945 On the basis of War Production Board estimates of natural rubber requirements, Combined Raw Materials Board estimates of the amount which can be allocated to the United States from British and other sources, and Rubber Development Corporation estimates of the amount it can obtain from all sources now available to it, we will cease to have a working supply of natural rubber during the first quarter of the year 1946; unless: Either: A. Requirements are immediately reduced; or B. Additional important sources of natural rubber are immediately captured. NATIONAL ARCHIVES The estimates are these: SERVICE Tons 1. Rubber on hand at July 1, 1945, 93,000 Environment 2. New supply, July 1, 1945 to 80,400 March 31, 1946, Total, 173,400 3. Requirements, July 1, 1945 to March 31, 1946, 135,400 4. Rubber on hand at March 31, 1946, 38,000 FOR VICTORY 5. Minimum essential supply, 40,000 BUY UNITED STATES 6. Deficit, 2,000 WAR BONDS AND STAMPS SECRET
