The Brazilian Acting Foreign Minister has informed Ambassador Berle that President Vargas states that Brazil is prepared to declare war on Japan if invited to do so by the US. Bidault Considering His Future. Ambassador Caffery reports that Bidault is very unhappy over various situa- tions, particularly those resulting from French policy in the Levant and Italy, which arose during his absence. Al- though Bidault is understood to be considering the possi- bility of resigning it is probable that he will continue in the government since he fears that his resignation might precipitate a governmental crisis from which only the extreme Left would derive profit. Venezia Giulia. SAC has told the US and UK Ambassa- dors in Belgrade that he has "no further comments" on the draft note to Tito and its accompanying military agree- ment since CCS has informed him that we are to maintain "the demand for Pola and anchorages on the west coast of Istria." SAC says that if Tito accepts the US-UK demands such details as the demarcation of the lines east of Trieste and around Pola, etc., could be settled at a conference between his and Tito's respective Chiefs of Staff at Thirteen Corps HQ near Trieste.
