1. Weather: Low overcasts with bases 1-2,000 feet, visibility 8
miles, lowering to 2 miles in early morning ground fog. High overcast
with tops at 23,000 feet. Forecast for 7 July (KT): Scattered to broken
low clouds with bases 3,000 tops 12,000 feet, visibility 8 miles, becoming
low overcast bases 1,000 by 0900/07(KT), becoming scattered clouds at
3,000 feet by 1600(KT), this condition remaining throughout day.
2. Soviet participation:
*a. General Choe Pyong Tok of the Southern Korean Army is re-
ported as having personally witnessed Soviet uniformed personnel manning
North Korean tanks on 27 June near Uijongbu. (FECOM) (SECRET)
b. A captured enemy lieutenant of the North Korean Third Div-
ision states that the division has 15 Soviet advisors in Soviet officers uni-
forms. The senior Soviet colonel, as the advisor to the division commander,
does not give direct orders but suggests the tactics to be used. There are
two Soviet advisors to each regiment, two with the artillery unit, one each
with the communications and training units, and four as cultural and pol-

3. Operations:
Enemy Situation
At 0815/05(KT), an enemy force of infantry and 30 tanks at-
tacked the outpost position of the 1st Battalion of the 21st U.S. Infantry
Regiment and Battery A of the 52d Field Artillery Battalion in the vicinity
of Osan. FECOM reports that the North Korean forces displayed resource-
fulness and tactical skill in their initial engagement with U.S. forces. With
their ammunition exhausted, the U.S. troops withdrew to the rear of def-
ensive positions organized by the 34th U.S. Infantry Regiment in the vicinity
of Pyongtaek and Ansong. Four enemy tanks were disabled by direct hits
on treads by U.S. artillery fire. The U.S. Battery abandoned its artillery
