(PRESS)
Collett (DD) and Shoalhaven, British Patrol Frigate, patrolling
West coast Korea. Dehaven (DD) enroute Sasebo. Jamaica (Br.CL), Hart (Br.
PF) and Swenson (DD) patrolling East coast Korea. (COMNAVFE) (SECRET)
U.S. AIR
K. FEAF reports belief that lack of enemy aerial opposition may
be due to a desire to save aircraft for a surprise assault. On 6 July (KT) one
Yak strafed Osan, while on 7 July, two strafed Taegu. Interrogation of enemy
air force prisoners of war indicates that aircraft previously believed to be
Yak-9's actually are Yak 7B's, these aircraft being similar in appearance.
1. Although missions were hampered by weather throughout the
period, B-29's radar bombed the oil refinery and marshalling yards at Wonsan
and targets of opportunity. B-26's attacked tank and truck concentrations
north of Pyongtaek and between Pyontaek and Osan with good results, although
with the loss of 2 aircraft. Fighters performed escort, cover, and close
support missions reportedly destroying or damaging one locomotive, several
troop cars, tanks, half tracks, and trucks. Transports continued airlifts
although curtailed somewhat by weather.
Coordination by Office of Assistant Chief of Staff, G-2, U.S. Army
Extensions: 131-55245, 55766, 72591.
