3. Operations:
Enemy Situation
'a. During the period the enemy's advance was slowed as troops
and materiel were massed in the forward areas. Probing patrols to the
south were active. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*b. In addition to the 40 to 50 tanks and heavy track-drawn artil-
lery resembling "155-mm. long toms" reported yesterday, other convoys
are moving from Kumyangjang toward Ansong. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*C. Forty to sixty tanks and 1,000 enemy troops reportedly are
in the process of crossing the Ansong River, and heading south toward
Songhwan. Blown bridges and swollen streams continue to be serious ob-
stacles to the advance of the enemy's armored units. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*d. Air observation confirmed a heavy buildup of supplies,
equipment, and personnel from the north and northwest massing north of
the Pyongtaek- Wonju line. FECOM reports that this buildup indicates the
distinct possibility of a wide envelopment to cut the main north-south com-
munications line in the Taejon area. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*e. Although not confirmed by aerial observation, there have
been repeated reports of enemy movements south along the east coast. The
originally reported constabulary brigade in the Kangnung-Samchok area may
now have been expanded to division strength. (FECOM) (SECRET)
