ENEMY SITUATION
*a. The southward advance of the enemy forces to Chonui was
reported stopped 8 miles northwest of Chochiwon by elements of the 21st
U.S. RCT in positions along the south bank of the Miho River, a tributary
of the Kum. The remainder of the front in the Chonan-Chinchon area was
relatively stable. The enemy continues to build up concentrations of troops
and armaments in this area, with the most probable objective of strengthen-
ing the 2d and 3d Divisions for a drive to outflank Chochiwon and ultimately
Taejon. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*b. The retaking of Chungju by the enemy is reported and, ele-
ments of the 15th North Korean division located near Umsong are moving
toward Chungju. (FECOM) (SECRET)
*C. The enemy is attacking the 8th ROK Division south of the
Han River near Sin.
*d. Whereas it is believed that the Chonan-Chinchon concentrations
(a. above) may constitute the western thrust of a southward movement, enemy
activity in the Umsong-Chungju area seems to indicate the formation of an
eastern force for the same movement. (FECOM) (SECRET)
