k. The 24th RCT under heavy artillery and ground attack withdrew
to new defensive positions northeast of Hwaryongjang. The 27th RCT con-
tinued its defense in the area northwest of Hwanggan. The 1st Battalion
of the 35th RCT has been attached to the 27th RCT and committed on the
right flank in the vicinity of Hwanggan. The 35th RCT (less 1st Battalion)
has moved to defensive positions from the vicinity of Sinchon to south of

SOUTH KOREAN ARMY
1. The Capitol Division continued its defense north of Yechon, the
8th Division repulsed an enemy attack south of Yongju, and the 1st and 6th
Divisions continued their defense in the area north of Hamchang. The 3d
Division attacked north toward Yongdok The results of this action are

NAVY
m. Carrier aircraft provided close and medium front line support
for troops under the direction of Joint Operations Center 26 July. Other
results: One large building destroyed, 6 towns burned out by napalm bombs,
one 11-10 burned, 6 trucks strafed, large powerhouse burned, and 2 tanks
bombed but results not observed. No troop concentrations found on search
north of 38th parallel. EUSAK reports that 7th Fleet air operations 25 and
26 July exceedingly effective. (ONI)(SECRET)
Do On 26 July USS COLLETTE (DD) fired on targets of opportunity
on east coast sweep north to 38th parallel. One truck destroyed, 4 tru cks
probably destroyed; two bridges, one radio station, power plant, warehouses,
and one locomotive damaged; several sheds set afire. Other firing obser-
vations obscured by fog. USS SWENSON (DD) and USS DE HAVEN (DD)
conducted call fire missions on troops, mortar positions, and gun emplace-
ments in Yongdok area with excellent results, (ONI) (SECRET)
O. USS MANSFIELD (DD) and USS COLLETTE (DD) relieved USS
KYES (DD) and USS SWENSON (DD) on east coast Korea patrol. (ONI)
