CRET of Kumchon. Enemy supply points have been located in the Yongdong Middle School and in warehouses in the southern section of the city. At 0930/03 (KT) 3d North Korean Division's troops converged on Kumchon from the north and the west (FECOM) (SECRET) d. The 3d North Korean Division is operating along the Kumchon-Waegwan axis; the 2d Division along the Sinchon-Sonsan axis; and the 15th along the Sang- ju-Uisong axis. e. North Korean troops occupied Hamchang, Yechon, and Andong. Eight miles least of Hamchang, the enemy attempted to ferry tanks across the Naktong River. By aggressive patrolling, the friendly forces regained contact with ele- ments of the 7th and 8th North Korean Divisions. (FECOM) (SECRET) f. The 5th North Korean Division was driven from Yongdok as friendly forces occupied the city. ROK Forces continued to engage the enemy two miles north of Yongdok. An unidentified enemy regiment advanced to the village of Chinan, approximately 20 miles northwest of Yongdok. (FECOM) (SECRET) g. A Navy P2V on a reconnaissance flight along the Korean east coast, on the night of 3-4 August, was attacked by night fighters, presumably enemy. Details of the attack have not been received. (CINCFE) (SECRET) h. An aircraft from the 22d Bomb Wing reported sighting a submarine at 1035/03 (KT) at 34-15N, 130-05E. The sighting was evaluated by COMNAVFE as a possible submarine. (CINCFE) (SECRET) 4. Friendly Situation: GROUND a. 1st U.S. Cavalry Division: The Division withdrew to a position west of Waegwan; covered the withdrawal of the 24th RCT; then withdrew east of the Naktong River and organized defense sectors as follows: 5th Cavalry RCT holds a line from 4 miles north of Waegwan to Waegwan. The 8th Cavalry RCT is on a line from Waegwan to a point on the Naktong River about 14 miles south. The 7th Cavalry RCT is on the left of the 8th Cavalry RCT on a line south following the river to a point 13 miles north of Changnyong, (FECOM) (SECRET) b. 2d U.S. Infantry Division: Advance Headquarters is at Taegu. The 9th RCT assembled in the vicinity of Kyongsan. (FECOM) (SECRET) C. 24th U.S. Infantry Division: The 19th RCT is in the vicinity of Won- bung.
