Weather: Weather conditions continue to be generally fair in the entire Korean area. Some cloudiness exists in the southeastern sector. Forecast: Generally fair. 2. Soviet Participation: A prisoner of war from the 3d North Korean Division has admitted that the division has 15 Soviet advisors who were present in uniform with the unit when it marched toward Seoul from Uijongbu on 28 June. Another North Korean PW told of seeing Soviet officers directing the laying of guns. When fire began, the Soviet officers observed through field glasses and made corrections by phone through an interpreter. (CIA) (SECRET) 3. Enemy Situation: a. In the southern sector the enemy engaged the friendly forces in a fire fight at dusk in the vicinity of Chungam. The enemy is reported to have a regi- ment in the vicinity of Tundok, a battalion about 3 miles north of Chungchon, and a battalion about 3 miles northeast of Tundok. The enemy continued to exert pressure against friendly positions in the Chinju area. Enemy attacks on the positions of the 27th and 35th Infantry Regiments were repulsed. Pris- oners of war confirm the presence of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Regiments of the 6th North Korean Division in the Chinju area. They also state that the objective of 2 battalions of the 15th Regiment was the high ground south of Masan. (FE- COM) (SECRET) b. North Korean forces of unknown strength are reported to occupy Chogye and Koryong. In the Kochang=Hyopchon area, enemy activity remained quiet. An estimated enemy regiment is reported in an area about 6 miles east of Koryong. (FECOM) (SECRET) C. Reports indicate that the enemy continues its buildup in the vicinity of Kumchon. Four enemy artillery pieces resembling "Long Toms" are re- ported in positions about 8 miles east of Chirye. (FECOM) (SECRET) d. An enemy column of unknown strength was observed moving from the vicinity of Sangju to 8 miles southeast.
