Weather: Scattered clouds at 2,000 to 3,000 feet over all Korea except broken to overcast at 1,000 to 2,000 feet along the southeast coastal area. Forecast: Broken to overcast at 1,000 feet over the east coast improving to 2,000 feet in the morning of 7 August. 2. Soviet Participation: In order to establish the fact of support to the North Koreans by the U.S.S.R. or the Chinese Communists, the Joint Chiefs of Staff authorized CINCFE to conduct aerial reconnaissance over all Korean territory, including Korean coastal waters, up to the Yalu River on the west coast and up to but short of the Korean-Soviet International boundary on the east coast. Such aerial reconnaissance will be conducted from as far south of the frontiers of Manchuria or the U.S.S.R. as practicable, and in no case are these frontiers to be overflown. (JCS) (TOP SECRET) 3. Enemy Situation: a. The situation remained comparatively stable in the south as the enemy continued to exert heavy pressure in the Chinju area. Reports indicate that the enemy is concentrating artillery in the vicinity of Kogan and an area 3 miles west of Wonbung. An estimated enemy regiment supported by artillery is reported in an area 2 miles northwest of Kogan. An attempted enemy in- filtration in the vicinity 2 miles west of Chungam was repulsed. Continual enemy buildup is reported in the Chinju area. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. An unknown number of enemy troops are reported crossing the Naktong River at 2 ferry crossings 9 miles west of Yongsan. An estimated enemy company is reported in an area 5 miles least of Chogye. Enemy patrol action is reported all along the Naktong River in the 4th North Korean Division zone. (FECOM) (SECRET) C. An estimated enemy battalion is reported moving from Songju to 3 miles southeast.
