Washington, D. C. June 13, 1945 9:25pm BOB to PRITCHARD. B--Look, before I start talking about this other thing, Pritch, I want to talk about something I meant to talk to you the last day or two. HAROLD told me that yesterday CARL HELLER (Phon.) ), you know, the SURPLUS PROPERTY BOARD, had talked with him and was quite upset about something; and I saw HELLER today and he told me the story. He said that STURGESS (Phon.) came in yesterday and STURGESS was quite bitter and so forth, and told him he thought the god-damn BOARD was going FASCIST and was selling out to big business, and jesus-christ quite a song and dance. Now, I think that if STURGESS, er, it was all right to tell him what he thinks, but to tell him that he went and talked to DREW PEARSON, I thought was pretty lousy, was pretty stupid of the guy. Now, I don't know how well you know him, but christ he's going to get himself into real hot water down there. The COLONEL doesn't know what to hell to do. He figures now they're going to get 3 or 4 days of blasting when he thinks they have a chance to be moving. Maybe, I don't know, Pritch. If he hasn't got any more judgment than that, maybe we'd be better off to get rid of the guy. P--Well, he's resigned already. B--Yeah, I know but why in hell he should have gone and done that. I think he should have gone and told them, if he wanted to tell them what he thought of them, he should have told them. I didn't mean that, of course. If I were on the BOARD I'd fire him right now; I wouldn't let him be around at all even if he has resigned. P--Yeah, well I don't know, I'm sort of against them both over there. I think they've probably done a lot of stuff they shouldn't have. I mean er from what BREADMAN (Phon.) tells me, for instance, and JIM DOYLE (Phon.), these fellows at RFC are just riding rough-shod over them on this plant regulation. B--Yeah, you mean they're not going to put out a list at all. P--Well, that's not on the plant. B--Well, on the list of tools. P--Yeah, well they haven't put out any list yet. B--Yeah, well I know they haven't but of course that god-damn nobody's fighting for it. Somebody on the BOARD ought to fight for it. P--That's right. B--Well, have you got any ideas beyond PODELL (Phon.) for General Counsel? P--Well, er, is HELLER willing to put somebody like that in.
