    "ocrText": "- 2 -\nhis government that there is going to be a million dollar cut.\nAL told BRAND that it was serious but that it is not final yet.\nBRAND also wanted to know if the cut went through how it would\nbe apportioned to the various countries. AL said that he will\ndetermine that when he has lost the fight.\nPRICHARD confirmed that McKELLAR (Phon.) who is pretty\nfriendly is going to handle it in the Senate. AL stated that\nMcKELLAR and LEO are pretty good friends and they generally do\nnot give him much of a hearing. It will probably be a one day\naffair but AL thinks that it will be all right. AL received a\nletter from McKELLAR asking him what changes he wanted to make\nin the House bill but he is holding up the answer until he sees\nwhat the House does.\nAL continued that LEO was relying on DIRKSEN (Phon.)\nfor information and this made both McCORMICK and RAYBURN mad\nbecause DIRKSEN wanted a trip abroad and he could not get the\nState Department or anyone else to sponsor it. AL thinks that\nit was a good political move so he helped him. They got a solid\nvote. The committee clerk said that he (DIRKSEN) was the only\nfellow that was wide awake. PRICHARD asked if DIRKSEN is willing\nto go to bat tomorrow and AL replied that both DIRKSEN and\nWOODRUM (Phon.) are willing. PRICHARD will have the judge contact\nWOODRUM tomorrow. AL stated that he thinks WOODRUM is all right\nand that he will go along when he knows what it is about but that\nhe has not attended any meetings.\nPRICHARD said that the whole thing has him worried. AL\nstated that if something is not done about \"this guy\" there won't\nbe a lot of people around there. AL continued, \"Incidentally,\nOSCAR telling ELLISTON (Phon.) about this business, I was wonder-\ning what HARRY was up to. As a matter of fact HARRY is pretty\nfriendly with DEAN SO that corner is pretty well plugged.\" AL\nmentioned that rumor has it that OSCAR is slated for something\nin Justice but PRICHARD said he does not believe that there is\nanything to it.\nAL went to a farewell party for CHARLIE DENBY who re-\nsigned. AL said that he told DENBY to take a vacation as these\nnewspaper rumors may have some fire behind the smoke. AL mention-\ned that CLAY wants DENBY over in Germany. PRICHARD cautioned\nAL not to drop any hints around and AL stated that he is not\ndropping hints as to personalities but he is dropping hints that\nthere is fire behind these press releases. He said that he has\nto do this to hold some of the good guys. AL said that he was\nfrightened by the story of DEAN and has not told anyone. PRICHARD\nconfirmed that AL will call LEO now.\n9:55pm PRICHARD to FERG. (CHARLES L.
