MR. CLARK for CORCORAN who hadn't arisen as yet. CLARK re-
quested that CORCORAN call him when he gets up.
9:00am
WORTH CLARK for CORCORAN. They discuss KINSEY ROBINSON and the
holding company deal and the fact they will break the story to
FULTON LEWIS. There was then a discussion wherein CLARK said
he talked with GEORGE
yesterday, GEORGE being First Vice-
President of the Fidelity and Deposit of Baltimore. He dis-
cussed the Maryland Casualty situation. GEORGE said he actually
"sold" JESSE JONES on making the loan to Maryland Casualty and
"if that had gone down we'd have all gone down.' GEORGE said
the "story" on Maryland Casualty is that STUART MacDONALD (Phon.)
is "over there and he's determined that he's going to own that
company; that he's going to be President of it." GEORGE said
Maryland made between 3 and 5 million last year and STUART said
they're going to pay off the whole loan. GEORGE said that under
proper management it would be a fine thing but he would not say
what he thought of MacDONALD. The 3 to 5 million profit was
good on the basis of a 30 million dollar loan, said GEORGE to
WORTH GEORGE said he would like to be President of Fidelity.
CORCORAN said ULLHAM (of New York) will be down this week. CLARK
said he believed ULLHAM will be prepared to outbid but MacDONALD
is quite solidly entrenched. CORCORAN asked about ROSWELL HIDE
(Phon.) and CLARK said it looked bad. CLARK went over the medical
charts. CLARK had ALBERT THOMAS, Chairman of the Military Affairs
Committee, wire in, and also JOHN THOMAS. ROSWELL was before
the Commission yesterday and it was a bad day. CLARK says the
only thing now is for ROSWELL to contact Surgeon General KIRKS
(Phon.) ROSWELL has a bad nose condition--ope sores, etc.
CLARK is skeptical about the whole thing.
11:30am
CORCORAN to TOM BURKE in Room 830 of same building as CORCORAN.
BURKE is with the American Export Airlines. CORCORAN said he has
a cousin, LESTER KEEFE, in the jewelry business in New York.
"He's desperately anxious to get over to Switzerland. He has a
passport, a French visa, a Swiss visa, he has no English visa.
They apparently aren't giving them to anyone." CORCORAN said the
State Department mucked up his passport, confusing him with
someone else for 4 weeks, and now the boats are all loaded. KEEFE
now wants to get an ATC non-priority ship. KEEFE will come to
see BURKE who says he'll cooperate and see if he can get him over.
11:45am CORCORAN to IRVING BRANDT. BRANDT asked if TOM had thought of
anyone on the hill who might get into that business, and TOM said
he thought of BOB LaFOLLETTE who jumped into the business this A.M.
Through HILL (LISTER HILL?), HATCH jumped in. They may not give
a statement. ICKES sent a letter down this A.M., said TOM, that
