CO SUMMARY Washington, D. C. June 23, 1945 4:15pm CORCORAN to SENATOR LISTER HILL. He was not in but he will call CORCORAN when he comes in. 7:40pm GEORGE McNALLEY (Phon.), from St. Louis chats with CORCORAN about having their children's tonsils out. Then they start the follow- ing conversation: C--We have had lots of excitement back here. FRANCIS goes out next week, you know. M--Yeah, I saw him today. C--HOW was he? M--A little shaken, I think. He is awfully nice and awfully suave. He always is. But I thought he was a little bit shaken up over the whole thing. God knows 'he might be. C--They treated him pretty rough. M--Yeah. He didn't do too well for me. I think he is awfully nice guy. As I say, I hold nothing against him. I'm quite sure he just figured the other guy was a better man. Probably he is right. C--What do you mean? M--Oh, I mean on that WEXLER (Phon.) business. I'm quite sure it isn't that he doesn't like ne--just that he -- C--WEXLER'S kind of people always had a very peculiar hold on him. I think his schizophrenia about them was one of his troubles. I think the MOSWELL appointment was one of the biggest mistakes he ever made. That was a real mistake. M--Really, was TRUMAN interested in that? C--No, but it broke him, you see. He won the AP case. He lost the BRIDGES case. But the AP victory was a great victory for him. That was that impossible job HUGH COX pulled out on Montgomery ward. M--G--, wasn't that something! C--They say he was afraid to go out to Chicago to argue it. HUGH went out and he pulled out a miraculous victory. M--Sorry, I didn't get to see HUGH today. I went by to see him, but he was out. He's a d good lawyer. C--I think he's the best in the G--D Dept. now. M--Well, he's leaving. I don't know where he's going. C--I don't know either. I have a hunch he may be out to be Solicitor General. M--Good, I hope so. Why not. CHARLEY is going to be over there for at least a year. --Did you talk to CHARLEY? Did he invite you to go over and live with the Germans? M--Yeah, and I'd have gone--for 6 months, but it is too long. I have a little money in the Bank now and could afford to go.
