CO SUMMARY Washington, D. C. July 12, 1945 2:35pm DR. (LUDWIK) RAJCHMAN (UNRRA) to Mrs. BEHAN and JACK NASON asking if they've found a secretary for him yet. They said they have had no results yet but that they have a lot of "feelers" out. RAJCHMAN told NASON that he got his summons to go to Warsaw. They discussed the difficulties RAJCHMAN is having getting to Paris and RAJCHMAN said that he had talked to (ANDREW B., office of Secretary of State ?) FOSTER and that "They're making slow progress with this fellow FOSTER: " that FOSTER had told him that he (FOSTER) would have to take the matter up with the priority people and RAJCHMAN said he thinks FOSTER is very "green" about handling it and obviously doesn't know anything about it. RAJCHMAN wondered if something couldn't be done directly with the ATC (Air Transport Command) people. He said that regarding the trip around the world "they" have already secured a seat for him for that trip but that getting a plane to Paris is proving difficult. RAJCHMAN said that now that McCLOY's (Assistant Secretary of War JOHN J. McCLOY) secretary is no longer there he doesn't have direct access to that office. NASON said he would talk to TOM (CORCORAN) about it and see if there is anything they can do. 2:45pm Major CORREA to CORCORAN. Latter said he can't have dinner with MATT tonight and asked if Saturday noon was O.K. MATT said he didn't believe his girl would be here. They will contact each other later this week. 3:00pm BILL YOUNGMAN to MAC WRIGHT asking what he heard from T. V. (SOONG ?) and he said he was still in Moscow. There has been no direct word from him. YOUNGMAN asked re REYERSON (Phon.) and WRIGHT said no. Regarding Lever Bros., WRIGHT said it was a problem of WORTH pushing it a little harder. JACK NASON then talked and asked if (c. V., New York City ?) STORR had talked with him and YOUNGMAN said no. JACK said, "One of the AVG prisoners turned up and we owe him between 3 and 4 thousand.' JACK said that LULU "has his word from his capitol" and he's ready to go next week. JACK said that FOSTER, in State Department, can't help RAJCHMAN on priorities and so the CORCORAN firm will help him. JACK has talked with TAUBE (ALEX TAUBE, F.E.A.) who will have a list of ten projects that should be handled now. JACK will check with F. C. WONG (Phon.). TAUBE is working hard on the transportation angle. TOM CORCORAN said he saw the letter YOUNGMAN got from McCORMACK (Phon. on the Lever thing) and TOM said "A great deal depends on that one." TOM said that everything is hanging fire, going slow. YOUNGMAN may not come back for another week. JIM BRENNAN said that STRATEMEYER (Phon.) was put in charge of the U. S. Air Forces in China. YOUNGMAN said he didn't know that. 1
