CO SUMMARY Washington, D. C. July 20, 1945 8:45 AM WORTH CLARK to CORCORAN at home. CLARK said he is going to stay at home today. He asked CORCORAN if he had heard any more on "this ALVA JOHNSON (forthcoming article in Saturday Evening Post?) stuff." CORCORAN said he keeps hearing rumors on it. CLARK said he had talked to GENE KELLY (Phonetic) last night and asked CORCORAN if CORCORAN had ever seen the "proofs on those." CORCORAN said he hadn't but that other people have. CLARK said he understands "they're pretty tough--at least SO JOHNSON was bragging around about at the Press Club-which is O.K. It means good advertising." CLARK then asked if CORCORAN had ever refused to see JOHNSON and CORCORAN replied that he had and that he thought it was the proper thing to do. 10:05 AM CORCORAN to Senator BURNET MAYBANK's office (of South Carolina). He asked when and where they were going to have lunch and Senator MAYBANK replied that he will have to call CORCORAN about it later. 10:20 AM H. C. CHEN (or CHANG) (phonetic) to JACK NASON. JACK said he would have an answer to the telegram which H. C. received from DR. T. V. SOONG yesterday. P - They're certainly picking sweet ones these days. C - Well, I don't think TOM CLARK knew it. Just between you and me and the bedpost, I don't think he knew that JUDSON had been in this business. I think JUDSON knew what he was doing and I think he knows what he is doing now. I think he's deliberately getting himself in there for that purpose, but I don't think TOM CLARK knew about this oil business. P- TOM had some warnings that this guy wasn't any too good. C - For other reasons, huh? P - Yeah. I talked to him about it myself. C - Well, he was physically up there sitting with them in the hearings about three weeks ago. P - Did he testify or
