Washington, D. C. CO SUMMARY July 21, 1945 8:32 AM TOM CORCORAN asked GEORGE KILLIOM (Democratic National Committee) if he ever talked with JOSH LEE. CORCORAN said he was at JOSH's party last night and was just thinking that JOSH ought to know something that KILLIOM can tell him. CORCORAN will pick up GEORGE at 808 K Street on his way down this morning in about half an hour. 9:30 AM MISS KATHERINE FOLEY in Secretary FORRESTAL's office, Navy Department, to MISS GULLANDER telling her that FORRESTAL is inviting MR. AND MRS. CORCORAN to lunch at 1:00 P.M. tomorrow, either aboard the yacht or at his home. 10:05 AM JOHN SERVICE (JAFFE Case) to CORCORAN, who was out. SERVICE left word for CORCORAN to call him at WIsconsin 0438. 10:06 AM CORCORAN to D. WORTH CLARK at his home. CORCORAN read a letter to CLARK from CRAVEN (phonetic) about an Hawaiian case, T.W.A., etc. Letter was one which CRAVEN wrote to STAN KENNEDY (phonetic). They discussed the case. 10:25 AM CORCORAN to (Senator) LISTER HILL at Capitol. CORCORAN said, "I do know who's going on that court (Appellate Court) but I didn't want to say it last night I didn't want to talk the names because it's a kind of a dead secret, but I'm pretty sure I know who it is and some of the names will surprise you. None of the guys you want are even being thought of. HILL said, "Well, we're going to get a conservative court, I'm sure." TOM said, "Well, one guy, I think, won't be so bad but he'll be JACKSON's man. The nearest thing to a guy we want will be JACKSON's man. It's gonna be a very conservative court. You're not gonna get a single radical on it.' HILL said, "Listen, TOMMY, I'll come off the floor to see you at any hour at any time." TOM will come over this morning to see Speaker RAYBURN and while on the Hill will talk again with HILL in the latter's little office "right there in the Rotunda. 10:26 AM CORCORAN to his wife saying he thinks it a good idea to accept the FORRESTAL invitation to lunch tomorrow. 10:30 AM CORCORAN unable to reach Speaker RAYBURN. CORCORAN said, "I'll be down at the Hill in 15 minutes and will call then.' 10:35 AM GEORGE KILLIOM to CORCORAN. KILLIOM was at his office in the Democratic National Committee. He told CORCORAN that he has in his office a man to whom CORCORAN should talk inasmuch as this man is soon leaving for South American tour. The man's name is GILBERT MacKAY of New York City, whose telephone number is Murray Hill 2-2175. CORCORAN talked to MacKAY and said he believed he could help him. An appointment was made for TOM and DAVE CORCORAN to have breakfast with MacKAY at the University Club in New York City at 8:30 A.M. next Wednesday. MacKAY is a member of the Burning Tree Country Club in Washington. MacKAY told CORCORAN, "You'd be interested in this damn thing. I don't know how interested, but nobody ever went down under the circumstances that three of us are going down under. We've got introductions to everybody and I represent about 150
