5:30pm CORCORAN to JAMES P. McGRANERY of Justice Department who was not
in. CORCORAN talked to Miss FOSTER who said that JIM was some
place in the building, and she'll try to locate him so he may
contact CORCORAN. TOM said, "If he doesn't call soon he'll be
the proximate cause of my discourse."
5:40pm
THOMAS BEACH in CORCORAN'S office, to Senator LISTER HILL. Latter
will pick him up in the morning and they will "ride" in HILL's
car. HILL will pick him up about 11 or 12 noon tomorrow.
7:10pm
CHARLIE MURCHISON to TOM CORCORAN. CHARLIE asks if "We" made any
progress today. TOM says he doesn't know. CHARLIE says he thought
they might have heard from (Senator ?) CLAUDE (PEPPER ?) or some
other source as to whether "he" was able to do anything. TOM says
that he was probably on the floor with the Charter all day and
that he (TOM) thinks CHARLIE will have to wait for Monday or
Tuesday before he does anything and also that the thing is tight
and nothing is happening and the arrangement was definitely made
was to hold the line until CLAUDE to make sure again. TOM says
that he thinks everything will be all right. CHARLIE says he will
call him tomorrow and see what his plan is for action. TOM says
he will have time because they pushed the Charter Vote over to
Tuesday or Wednesday. TOM says that "we" can't let him go off
for a six weeks trip until "we" know what has happened. TOM says
"I will take care of that."

CHARLES MURCHISON to CORCORAN. CORCORAN asked him if he had seen
him (Senator PEPPER). MURCHISON replied in the affirmative, add-
ing that he had had a long talk with him; that PEPPER will be on
the radio this afternoon at 3:00 o'clock today with other Senators.
They discussed an airplane deal, the man from Georgia, the #1
man and Pennsylvania. MURCHISON said that CLAUDE told him he was
going to follow through on the matter tomorrow. TOM will have
breakfast with PEPPER tomorrow. MURCHISON spoke of the fact that
"our friend" should read page 2 (of some report) again. CORCORAN
will keep MURCHISON advised.
1:38pm
CORCORAN to (Former Senator) JOSH LEE at home. He asked if JOSH
had gotten "TOM CONWAY" (or CONNALLY ?) and JOSH replied, "I
didn't get him after that. I got him before. He said he would.
I don't know whether he did (follow up) or not. CLAUDE (PEPPER)
said he would.' CORCORAN said that was all he wanted to know.
2:00pm
(Senator) BOB LaFOLLETTE to TOM and Mrs. CORCORAN, saying he called
to say goodbye; that he is leaving on his vacation. He then asked
TOM if there were any final instructions, and TOM replied that he
did not think so. TOM said, "I've sort of given up on our boy-
friend, haven't you?" BOB said he had reached the boyfriend at
