PR SUMMARY
July 31, 1945
6:45 PM
BOB HANNEGAN to EDWARD F. PRICHARD.
H - Hello.
P - Hi General.
H - Are you going to the ball game with your boss?
P - No.
H - Well, he invited me to go but I have to work. PRICHARD what would
you think if I had BEADY BALDWIN (phonetic) as my executive assistant
over here?
P. - I think that would be splendid.
H - Are you sure?
P - Well, I am not sure but just off-hand it seems good.
H - He did indicate, you know, that he wanted to come with the National
Committee.
P - That's right.
H - I don't know whether he would want to come over here. I think he
will be sick and tired of BENSON (phonetic) when he finishes this
swing.
P - I'll bet he is.
H - I am getting reports already that BENSON just wants a third party.
P - He does?
H - Oh you. know he is a third party guy, you know that BENSON, what
the hell. He lets people "belt" TRUMAN on these trips going around.
How well do you know BEADY?
P - Very well.
H - My position of him is very favorable but if I had him over here and
he didn't go along with me, he could ruin me. Listen think about
it, I have another call here.
P - Yeah, let me think about it and I'll call you in the morning.
H - All right, don't say anything about it to anybody because I would
want to talk to TRUMAN later.
P - I won't GENERAL. Goodbye GENERAL.
