Washington, D. C. CO SUMMARY September 25, 1945 8:45 AM TOM CORCORAN to Senator LISTER HILL. TOM wants to know if PEGGY's (Mrs. CORCORAN) brother has been sent out of the country. HILL didn't think so but will check on it. CORCORAN told HILL that MICHAEL STRAIGHT (Author) is in town, that he is lunching with him, and invited HILL. HILL declined as he has another engagement. CORCORAN said that since he had helped STRAIGHT that STRAIGHT could help HILL. CORCORAN will send him down to see HILL. 8:58 AM TOM CORCORAN to JOE KEENAN. TOM said that he saw that fellow last night and he said that he would call KEENAN. KEENAN said that he had. CORCORAN then asked how the matter was progressing. JOE said that SELTZER (phonetic) had made an agreement that he wouldn't get in touch with the fellow at all on any appointment, which might be true. SELTZER thinks that DONALDSON of the Plain Dealer is closer. SELTZER told JOE that he would have EARL HART get in touch with him. (This probably deals with the appointment of FRANK LAUSCHE, Governor of Ohio, Democrat of a Democratic Senator to succeed Senator HAROLD BURTON who has just been appointed to the Supreme Court. SELTZER is the Editor of the Cleveland Press and DONALDSON of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.) 10:15 AM TOM CORCORAN to GEORGE KILLIOM at Democratic National Committee. KILLIOM told him that the serial number of the guy they were talking about was 19132444, and he has about 30 points. KILLIOM said that he was going to New York tonight. KILLIOM said that he had read the story in last night's Star and they gave (BARTLEY) CRUM a pretty good play. 10:20 AM ABE FORTAS to TOM CORCORAN. CORCORAN said that he'd talked to HILL and that HILL (Senator LISTER HILL) would talk to BARKLEY--to get the Senate Judiciary Committee. ICKES will be back in a week. 10:21 AM TOM CORCORAN to GEORGE KILLIOM at Democratic National Committee. TC - GEORGE, remember this playback that I told you about on this thing? And on some other things for JOE PANUCH? I'm having to take care of that Mayor's brother, I'm sending you over the memorandum on the brother. You just put the touch in on the Civil Affairs and the Department of Justice and I'll straighten it out. O.K.? Before you go. GK - Oh, I'll call TOM (CLARK). TC - And I'll straighten it out with SONNETT. GK - What do you want me to say to TOM? TC - Just simply say to TOM you'd like to have this done for lots of reasons and that you've asked me to handle it for you and that I'm going to try to handle it for you. GK - Good.
