CO SUMMARY
October 2, 1945
4:25 PM
MR. PANUCH asked TOM CORCORAN if "their project has gone overboard."
He said he didn't want to embarrass CORCORAN or SONNETT but if he
doesn't get MAURICE COLTON placed somewhere he won't be able to ask
"the other guy" for any more favors and there isn't any other person
who will do the favors for him because "this guy" has an incredible
network of captains and majors and ATO (phonetic). CORCORAN said
we'll just have to put the guy in that's all. He said he will be
talking to TOM CLARK at 5 o'clock today and will speak to him about
it. PANUCH said a good place for COLTON would be in the Narcotics
Division in New York. He said he doesn't want to saddle a "slob" like
him on a nice guy like SONNETT.
4:50 PM
Unidentified man told TOM CORCORAN about a survey which was made in
1941 in 20 pages and now has been reprinted with interpolations for
1945. He asked CORCORAN whether they should send a copy to every member
of Congress and whether the copies should be signed by their president,
JOHN MOODY. CORCORAN said he should send the copies to Congressmen and
they should be signed by MOODY. He also will send CORCORAN a copy.
11:00 PM
BILL YEAGER, New York City, to TOM CORCORAN. Latter said that he is
interested in meeting VERNON TAYLOR because he has a group interested in
putting money into Maryland Casualty. YEAGER will arrange for him to
meet TAYLOR. CORCORAN will be in New York City Thursday and Friday in
connection with the AL SMITH dinner. He also told YEAGER that he has
found the man to handle the Investor Syndicate deal and will tell him
his name Thursday in New York.

TOM CORCORAN to BOB HINKLEY, Mayflower 476. He asked him if he had
talked to PORTER or LARRY FLY (phonetic). BOB said he had just
greeted PORTER last night but hadn't talked with anyone. CORCORAN
said he wanted to know before he "went in there." BOB said that
GLASSMAN reports DEMPSEY and KOPLEVITZ (phonetic) were very optimistic.
CORCORAN said they ought to be.
8:15 AM
CHARLIE MURCHISON (from Indianapolis) told CORCORAN that he had lunch
yesterday with FRANKLIN KELL (phonetic), who used to be public counsel
and is DELTA's man. KELL told him that he heard from Washington
yesterday that POGUE was resigning within the next 48 hours and LEE
was going to be made Chairman. KELL asked MURCHISON if he was backing
him for that job. MURCHISON said he didn't even know POGUE was getting
off. He said the alternative suggested by KELL was the former chairman
who is on the Board who comes from Atlanta. KELL said he was to take
it up yesterday with representatives of the other big airlines there.
He said the people from Eastern Airlines spent their time button-holing
everybody and trying to promote the other man and to prevent the
resignation of POGUE if they could. MURCHISON described the hearing
there as being on the Great Lakes area case. He said he is trying to
get through with the major airlines phase of it and will not wait for
the feeder line hearings before returning to Washington. CORCORAN said
