CO SUMMARY
October 6, 1945
7:35 AM
TOM CORCORAN to WORTH CLARK. TOM first spoke to MRS. CLARK and she
said that they were going down at 8:00 A.M. TOM then asked WORTH if
he were riding down with the "Big Shot." No. WORTH will pick up
"BONNY" (phonetic) at 8:15 A.M. WORTH said that everything was O.K.
KEN WHERRY called WORTH yesterday and took him "off his feet." WHERRY's
man from Omaha was in town yesterday and wanted to see CLARK. He also
requested that WHERRY go to see ADMIRAL LAND. WHERRY didn't want to do
this, WHERRY suggested that all parties concerned get together. WORTH
told WHERRY that he was leaving town immediately; but agreed to stay over
until Monday to see WHERRY and WHERRY's man. WHERRY will also have to
see his fellows in New York Monday. WHERRY suggested to CLARK that maybe
CLARK would want his man down; WHERRY also suggested that the business
be settled "once and for all." WHERRY said, "This friend of mine just
wants a vote--a banana (phonetic)." CLARK agreed to call WHERRY at
9:30 A.M. Monday. WORTH asked TOM whether or not they should have
POLLEN (phonetic) down. CLARK says that he doesn't know enough about
the situation. WORTH will be in town at 5:00 P. M. tonight. He said
that he had "stolen" FRANCIS' (BIDDLE ?) Cadillac and Chauffeur and
that he was picking up BARNEY or BONNY (phonetic) at 8:15. WORTH said
that EDDIE LAUGHLIN (phonetic) came by last night and WORTH learned
many interesting things. EDDIE is going with TRUMAN on "this trip."
WORTH said, "A lot of things are happening down there-really to the
good--you'll be amazed--good from our standpoint." In answer to TOM's
query WORTH said that everything was grand concerning "LEVER". WORTH
said that (CLINTON ?) ANDERSON was out of town and was meeting TRUMAN
in Blytheville, Arkansas today. BENNETT (CLARK) has been unable to
contact ANDERSON but is meeting TRUMAN today. LYDEN (phonetic) and
ANDERSON will be back Monday. TOM asked if BENNETT had a chance to
give "him" (ANDERSON) PRICHARD's address. WORTH replied that he had
not as "he" (ANDERSON) had left town. TOM said that he had made a
mistake with EDDIE LAUGHLIN--that when SCHAEFFER of News Week had
called him he had given the firm name as CORCORAN, CLARK and YOUNGMAN--
and he was afraid that this would prevent his getting a real notice
out of EDDIE. WORTH said that he had told BILL (YOUNGMAN) to give
EDDIE a copy of whatever release he gave out. WORTH said that EDDIE
was "right at the throne," was very interesting, full of facts, and
very friendly. WORTH said that everything was in good shape; that he
had "held the hands of MR. BROWNELL" and that BROWNELL will call
CORCORAN Monday. TOM said to give his regards to BENNETT (CLARK) and
BARNEY (BARUCH). Note. Evidently CLARK is going to the wedding of
BENNETT CLARK this afternoon in Berryville, Virginia. The President
is to be best man.
7:59 AM
TOM CORCORAN to WORTH CLARK reminding him of the JACOBSEN matter-the
fellow CLARK was to take to the White House. WORTH said that he hadn't
done anything yet. WORTH remarked that LOWELL SON(phonetic) had gotten
the Federal Trade Post and that such was "baseball." WORTH told TOM
that if he got POLLEN in on Monday to have him bring the affidavits as
they had only two weeks. TOM says that he is bringing them in. CORCORAN
said that POLLEN felt that the situation was opening up with the loosening
