3. United Nations Situation:
GROUND
a. U.S. Eighth Army: At 0700/14 (KT) the units of the Eighth
Army began withdrawing to a defense line which extends along the north-
west and north edge of the Kimpo Peninsula, northeast along the south bank
of the Imjin River to Chokhyon, thence to Hwachon and Yangyang. The gen-
eral withdrawal will be conducted by elements to the west of Chokhyon.
These units, which include the 24th and 25th U.S. Infantry Divisions and the
1st and 6th ROK Divisions, reported minor hostile contacts. The 1st U.S.
Cavalry Division continued in Army reserve as elements patrolled to Chun-
chon, Hongchon, and Wonju. The 10th Philippine BCT and the Greek In-
fantry Battalion was attached to the Division effective 13 December. The
3d ROK Division, now under Eighth Army control, debarked at Pusan. The
23d Regiment was enroute by rail from Pohang to Wonju, while the 18th
and 22d Regiments prepared to move from Pusan to Wonju. Elements of
the 187th U.S. Airborne RCT, the 21st Thailand Regiment, and the 10th
Philippine BCT closed at Munsan. (FECOM)(SECRET)
b. U.S. I Corps: The 24th and 35th U.S. RCT's of the 25th U.S.
Infantry Division were withdrawing to positions on the new defense line,
while the 27th U.S. RCT was covering the withdrawal from blocking positions
9 miles west of Munsan. The units of the 1st ROK Division were withdraw-
ing to positions on the new defense line. Elements of the 12th Regiment
engaged an enemy group 4 miles east of Chamsong. The 29th United King-
dom Infantry Brigade Group, in Corps reserve, closed in an assembly area
4 miles north of Kupabal. The 1st Turkish Armed Forces Command was
attached to the 25th U.S. Infantry Division effective 13 December. Elements
of the Command maintained defense positions in the vicinity of Tongjin,
as the remainder of the Command continued reorganizing 7 miles east of
Inchon. The 25th U.S. Infantry Division has been ordered to assume re-
sponsibility for the defense of the peninsula northwest of Kimpo Airfield;
to patrol Kanghwa Island; and to detect any enemy landings in that area.

Co U.S. IX Corps: The 2d Regiment of the 6th ROK Division closed
in an assembly area 4 miles south of Yonchon, and the 7th and 19th Regi-
ments were withdrawing to the new defense line. In the 24th U.S. Infantry
Division area, the 5th U.S. Infantry RCT was in positions in the vicinity of
Yonchon, the 21st U.S. RCT held positions in the vicinity of Yangmun, and
the 19th U.S. RCT was moving to positions on the left of the 21st U.S. RCT.
A patrol of the 27th British Commonwealth Brigade engaged an enemy group
in the vicinity of Sinpal, as another patrol was forced to withdraw from
high ground 4 miles to the northeast. (FECOM)(SECRET)
