MARS, From 0700/19 (EST) to 0700/20 (EST) From 2100/19 (Korea) to 2100/20 (Korea) 889 1. Weather: By Overcast low and middle clouds clearing after 0800/20 (KT). Visibility unrestricted with battle area temperatures ranging from 28 to 52 degrees F. Forecast: Generally clear during night with scattered low and middle clouds during 21 March. Unrestricted visibility. Battle area temperatures will range from 30-40 F. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Light enemy resistance continues on Eighth Army front. (FE- COM)(SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: GROUND a. General: Limited objective offensive advances toward new phase line with DX Corps units 9 miles southwest and southeast of Chun- chon. (FECOM)(SECRET) b. IU.S. Corps: The 1st ROK and 3d U.S. Infantry Divisions maintained positions in the Seoul area. Patrols contacted enemy groups up to company strength in the area 2 1/2 to 11 miles north of friendly po- sitions. 25th U.S. Infantry Division: Right flank elements advanced ap- proximately 1 mile against negligible resistance. Air observed an esti- mated enemy regiment entrenched 4 miles north of 25th Infantry Division positions. (FECOM)(SECRET) C. IX U.S. Corps: 24th U.S. Infantry Division units advanced up to 3 miles on the Corps left flank and cut the Chunchon-Seoul highway 4 1/2 miles south of Taegong. 6th ROK Division: The 19th ROK Regiment advanced 4 miles unopposed to an area 5 miles southeast of Taegong. The 2d ROK Regiment attacking to the north gained 2 miles. In this action the Regiment surprised and overran an estimated enemy battalion killing 231, and capturing 7 PW's plus considerable enemy equipment. 1st U.S. Cavalry Division: The 5th and 8th U.S. Cavalry Regiments, attacking on both sides of the Hongchon-Chunchon highway, advanced to a point 7 miles northwest of Hongchon without opposition.
