Weather: Weather did not hamper air operations on 19 September. Generally clear. Visibility 8 miles. Forecast: Scattered low and high clouds in. creasing to overcast by end of the day. Visibility 5 to 7 miles. (FEAF) (SECRET) 2. Enemy Situation: Heavy resistance continued in the east-central sector, where regi- mental-size groups were encountered and battalion- to regimental-strength attacks were made upon UN positions. Elsewhere, resistance was light to moderate in patrol clashes. Adjusted report of vehicle sightings for 18-19 September: 1, 055, of which 665 were moving south. (FECOM) (SECRET) 3. United Nations Situation: ARMY: a. General: UN units continued to attack in the east-central sector, but were held to limited advances in heavy fighting. Aggressive patrolling continued in other sectors. UN artillery fired on three tanks to the front of the 1st British Commonwealth Division, west of Yonchon, and on two tanks opposite the 1st US Cavalry Division in the same area. The 7th US Infantry Division also reported one tank observed to the front in the central sector. (FECOM) (SECRET) b. I US Corps: Patrols from the 1st ROK, 1st British Common- wealth, and 1st US Cavalry Divisions engaged numerous groups up to company size in their respective sectors. Elements of the 3d US Infantry Division advanced slightly toward high-ground objectives west of Chorwon. 3d Division artillery fired on a possible troop concentration four miles north of Chorwon.
