The admission of displaced persons under the Displaced
Persons Act of 1948 is approaching the termination date fixed by
the Congress. The Congress and the American people have every
our
right to be proud of the achievements made under this farsighted
humanitarian legislation.
Under this law, almost 330,000 victims of tyranny have
been resettled in the United States. The major phase of the pro-
gram was completed with the issuance of practically all of the
341,000 visas authorized to be issued by midnight, December 31, 1951.
