SPEECH OF HONORABLE HARRY S. TRUMAN Democratic Candidate for Vice-President Never before in the history of our country have we so fully mobilized our tremendous productive resources as during the past four years. With speed, efficiency, and daring, we have applied all of our manpower and skills, all of our natural resources and existing and new machinery and equipment to the production of munitions of war. What we have done wi 11 be recorded in history as a glorious achievement. It is evidence of the strength of a free America and it is conclusive proof that we need never again think in terms of an economy of scarcity. The productive capacity of these United States is certainly adequate to provide a decent standard of living for all of our people. No longer must, nor can we, justify poverty and slums. No longer can we resign ourselves to any substantial portion of our people being wi thout adequate housing or sufficient clothing, food, medical care, recreation and all of the other things which give comfort and enjoyment to life. We have the means to erase NARA and to insure decent standards of living for every American.
