SPECTATOR SPORTS ASNOUNCER: As the baseball season approaches, there 1a a renewed discussion as to the place of spectator sports in vartime. On this program, we are especially fortunate today in having a sost distinguished guest to be intervieued on this subject, the Nonorable Harry S. Truman, Vice President of the United States. Mr. Vice President, what is your personal attitude relative to apectator sports in wartime? MR. TRUMAN: 1 sincerely believe that the American public should have every fora of sport possible, provided that this does not. interfere with our all-essential objective, namely, winning the war at the earliest possible moment. ANNOUNCER: I as sure, Mr. Vice President, that all sport fans, as well as the general public will agree with that objective. Bowever, is it really possible to have spectator sports without interfering with the aar effort? MR. TRUMAN: Yes, 1 believe that we can have spectator aports in a manner thich will not interfere with the war. In fact, it is my sincere belief that sports actually help our war effort.
