COP Washington, D.C. June 8, 1942 Honorable Lewis B. Schwellenbach United States District Judge Spokane, Washington Dear Lew: You don't know how very much I appreciated your good letter of the Twenty Fifth. I was gone the last three days of last week, hence the delay in answering it. I had a session with Hatch yesterday and w are goining to work out a program so it will be necessary for us tombe in Chicago while you are there. Nothing would please me better than to have a reunion with you and Shay and Ryan Duffy. It would be a real treat. I do appreciate most highly the remark you were so kind to make about the work of the Committee. I don't think I have ever worked as hard in my life, or had as many prima donnas to deal with since I have been in polities, but to date I don't think we have made any major errors, although we have made a great many. I have taken the attitude it is not my business to go around over the country as Chairman of this war program Committee. I refused every offer except in one or two instances where I thought a statement of the program would be helpful in getting the job done. I will tell you all about it when I see you. I will discuss the matter further with Hatch and let you and Shay hear from me. Sincerely yours, HST:MLD Harry s. Truman, U. s. S.
