Miss Margaret Truman
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N. W.
Washington, D. C.
Dear Miss Truman:
The 1947 Convention of the American Legion, Department of the
District of Columbia, will be held in the National Guard Armory on
July 24-26, 1947. We plan to have the United States Marine Corps Band
play for us on the opening night. The Convention will be opened with
a rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner."
Thousands of Legionnaires in the District of Columbia listened
to your broadcast from Detroit, and we were deeply impressed with the
Democratic introduction of "Miss Margaret Truman of Washington, D. C."
We are happy that you made your debut in your own right, based upon
your own talent, and it is that display of noble spirit that has made
us so deeply desire to have you open our Convention with the National
Anthem.
Someday, somewhere, you will sing for a great convention.
Please consider giving us that honor. If you can arrange to sing for
us, please let me know whether you prefer to be accompanied by the
Marine Band or an accompanist of your choice. The program is to begin
at 8 p.m. and you would be free to leave by 9 p.m. if you so desire.
Special accommodations are being made for distinguished guests to assure
comfort and maximum privacy.
Kindly let me hear from you at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Alaceace a. Janea
Wallace A. Jones
Chairman, Department Convention
Subcommittee on Entertainment
