Dear Christian Friends, I am writing you rather than addressing theletter to the President. I know he is swamped with all sorts of mail. But I wanted to say Thank you for Courout andout Christian testimony, and for your high ideals We have had some wonderful women as "first ladies If in the Whitehouse. I think of the refined Mrs. Hayes, and Mrs. McKinley, and a few others I have known It is a position of very great influence on the womanhood and girlhood, indeed on the whole home life of America. That is why we are delighted to sucha family as you all in such a place. Your daughter in college will never be able to know how her exemplay life will inspire the young people of our land. One of the many precious gifts God bestows upon us is INFLUENCI Thus it is easy to see that a good life is far reaching in the life of others. Then, too, I believe there is a boy in your family I work with boys a good deal, know a little about t hem, having been a boy once myself, and also having tried to raise three of them, to say nothing of thenumberof boys I have met with, worked with, in more than 50 years as preacher and teacher. I heard of a boy who wanted to be a lawyer. His father took him to an old lawyer, and asked what is the best thing for him to read? "Read the book of Proverbs," said the lawyer. Yes, that book as well as the hole Bible is packed with splendid, inspiring counsel for oldand young . We remember you all, andespecially ourpresident, in prayer, daily. Like Queen Esther we can say of Mr. Truman as well as of all of you , "Who knoweth but thou art come to the thr for just sucha time a S this ? This does not require any reply. I just wanted let you know we thank God for ourpresident and his precious family, and feel sure the blessing of God will abound to you all day by day Rememb r Ro. 8 28 and Isaiah 41 10.
