December 11, 1963 Mr. J. E. Curry Chief of Police Subject: Interview of Mr. David Hughes Sir: On December 11, 1963, Lieutenant Jack Revill and Lieutenant F. I. Cornwall interviewed Mr. David Hughes of 2948 Binkley, Apartment 3, EM3-2851. Mr. Hughes is employed as a reporter by the Dallas Times Herald. Mr. Hughes stated that he was at home on November 24, 1963, when Lee Harvey Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby; that he was viewing television and saw the shocting on television; that he immediately dressed and reported to the Times Herald City Desk for assign- ment. He was subsequently assigned to the City Hall and arrived there at approximately 12:15 P.R. Mr. Hughes stated that he was instrusted to interview both police officers and other persons to get their reactions to the shooting of Oawald. Nr. Hughes stated that he interviewed Sergeant P. T. Dean and Patrolman R. E. Vaughn shortly after arriving at the City Hall. Mr. Hughes stated that Sergeant Dean was explicitly precise in what he said;that Sergeant Dean related that Jack Ruby came from the Main Street entrance ramp. Sgt. Dean did not state that he had observed Ruby come down the remp. A copy of Mr. Hughes original notem pertaining to the inter- view with Sergeant Dean are attached to this report. Mr. Hughes stated that Patrolman Vaughn rolated that Ruby apparently gained access to the City Hall basement via the Main Street ramp. Mr. Vaughn stated that he did not see Ruby pass by his duty assignment. A copy of Mr. Hughes original notes pertaining to the interview with Patrolman Vaughn are attached to this report.
