I showed the rifle to Oswald, and she could not positively
identify it, but said that it locked like the rifle that her husband had
and that he had teen keeping it in the garage at urs. raine's home in
Irving. After this, I questioned Oswald further about the rifle, tut he
denied owning a rifle at all, and said that he did have a small rifle
some years past. I askad him if he owned a rifle in sussia, and he said,
"You know you can't buy a rifle in Russia, you can only buy shotguns."
"I had a shotgun in Ruasio and hunted some while there." Marina Oawlad
had told me that ghe thought her husband mipht have brought the rifle
from New Orleans, whic he denied. He told me that he had some things
stored in a garape at HTS. Paine's home in lrving and that he had a fow
personal effects at bie FOOM on Peckley. I instructed the officers to
make a thorough merch of both of these places.
After reviewing all of the evidence ertaining to the killi
of President kennedy before -istrict Attorney Henry wade and his assis-
tant, Bill Alexander, and Jim Allen, former First Assistant District
Attorney of Dallas county, I signed a complaint before the District
Attorney charging Oswald wit! the murder of *resident ^ennedy. This was
at 11:26 pm. He was arraigned before Judge David Johnaton at 2:35 am,
November 23, 1963.
Oswald was placed in jail about 12:00 midnight and brought from the
jail for arraignment before Judge Tavid Johnston at 1:36 am.
