REACTOR SAFETY
QUESTION: Questions have arisen in some areas concerning the
safety of nuclear power plants. What is your view about
the safety of these plants?
ANSWER: Power reactors have been operating in this country
since 1957 and they have an impressive record of safety.
The Atomic Energy Commission has established rigid pro-
cedures for licensing and inspecting these plants. Some
of the leading scientists in the country participate in the
extensive safety reviews required for each plant, and their
aim is to do everything possible to assure safety of the
plant.
