The development of civilian nuclear power has achieved major success aa evidenced by recent decisions of utility mnagement in certain high fuel cost areas to proceed with construction of large nuclear plants based on economic justification. The emphasis in the development program has shifted to advanced systems which will make more effective use of nuclear resources, thereby greatly increasing the energy available for future generations. Attention also is being directed toward use of nuclear power for improving other aspects of civilian life such as desalting of water.
