REQUEST FOR
July 1, 1971
Dear Mr. St. John:
The only letter in President Johnson's files
received from you was that of November 1,
1968, to which a reply was sent by
Mr. Whitney Shoemaker on November 6.
As for Secretary McNamara's resignation
in 1967, he had served almost seven long,
hard years in one of the most demanding
posts in the government. He was going
forward to lead the Inte rnational Bank for
Reconstruction and Development, one of
the most important posts in the international
community where he has served with high
distinction for three and one-half years.
You may find this and other of your concerns
clarified in President Johnson's forthcoming
book, The Vantage Point.
Sincerely,
(Miss) Mary Rather
Secretary
Mr. Anthony St. John
