Stanley Hoffman
Mr. Kissinger
6-11-69 4:45 PM
K asked H if he would be coming down here at some point. K said things
are hectic - it's hard to please people. K said he had written to
Birrenbach weeks ago telling him he wanted German program under H.
K said he agreed and what he needs is formal letter from H. K said it
is going to be sent by Franklin - it boiled down to question of stationery.
H said stationery says German Research Program - Director Henry
Kissinger, on leave. H said all decisions made by standing committee -
seems it was impossible to get formal agreement of Bowie. xxxax
K said he is mad man - what the hell is he after. H said he seems to have
quieted down a bit. H said letter has gone out and we
are waiting for an answer. H asked if K is coming up there at all and
K said perhaps a weekend in June to see his children. K said he will be
here until July 1 then Calif for two months. H said he will be in Calif}
in Aug. K said Pres has said he would not be as busy out there as here
and perhaps they could get together.
K said H's memo was read by the President.
