-2- R said I think if you called Hugh Scott and said look this guy is going to do this and this could be very damaging to our negotiations and tell him to put it as an expression of hope of the Congress instead of a mandate. R said this way Goodell could make a resolution but as hope instead of as mandate. I think Hugh could get him to do that. K said I think that man (Goodell) is beneath contempt. K said he is playing cheap politics with the lives of the people over there and our country. K said will you let me know when you are arriving. You should arrive at York airport at 9:30 R said I really think Scott ought to be able to do that. R asked K if he saw his point about expression of hope rather than mandate. K said the President knows about this and asked whether you would be willing to make a public statement against it. R said if I told Goodell he could not do it he would go to the press and tell them that I said that. K said I know. K said I told Goodell look you have your views and we have ours. There is no use in debating this -- just keep me out of it. K said if we bring this off, Nelson, we will have done it alone.
