Senator Percy
11/03/69 7:50 p.m.
P said he is going on the Today Show tomorrow morning, and has been
asked to go on radio shows after the speech tonight. Indicated that he
would like some assistance. K asked well what help would you like? P
said any background you can give me as to what's coming so I can start
to formulate ideas. K said he had to start briefing the press in 10 min-
utes, to which Percy replied oh fine, you go right ahead. P asked if K
had briefed anyone on the Hill that P could call. K said he had briefed
Griffin. P said fine, was Scott there? Yes. P said why didn't he call
on them? K said he could have Haig talk with him in 15 minutes. Then
K said why don't I sent you a copy of the speech to reach your house at
9:00 and have Haig brief you.
K said at this stage what we need it unity. P said of course, that's
what he's hoping to assist with. K said he thinks this is the frankest,
fullest account of what we're doing and where we're going and why and
how. P said very good. A copy he could study as he is giving it would
help a great deal. P said he is on with Peter Dominick in the morning.
K said good, he would watch him.
