Secretary Rogers
12/11/69 10:35 a. m.
K said two things: first congratulations on the edditorials; they came out
very well; they should help with the Arabs. R said it was the best of all
possible worlds; Times carried it yesterday and today. R said he said
nobody ever reads the speech, but the Times editorial was unusually
good. K said now for the P to do anything would be almost a derrogation.
K said there is nothing the P could do which would be anything but nit-
picking one or two points. R said he doesn't know how you could get a
more balanced policy statement. K said yes, we should just let it sit
there. R said he thinks it's a good policy statement. K said Elliot
may have told you at first I was lukewarm, but then when I read the text
R said he made a lot of changes on the plane. K said even the
original text was a damn good speech. R said the emphasis was on the
Rhodes Formula. K said it turned out
the Israeli objection is okay
if it doesn't go any further than that-in fact that's what we need. It
wouldn't be authentic Ktx if the Israelis approved.
K said you asked about Wilson's speech? K said he brought it up with
the P--no problem.
