K: I have some people doing reports- are showing that
maligned as you were in 1968, you were right.
R: I know that. History will show that.
K: Will the President be interested in seeing that?
R: Yes, he'd like to see that.
K: I'll bring it with me.
R: Good.
K: Is he seeing me at the ranch or at Austin?
R: I don't know.
K: My impression is that I'm coming into the ranch. I may see
you tomorrow, if not I'll see you in Washington.
R: Good. I'll let you know some day the issue on which you have to
mend your fences with us.
K: No tell me kow.
R: Ellspeth thought your remarks about being exiled to Arizona--she
thought that was not right.
K: That was not a crack at you.
R: Right. She thinks you shouldn't worry about Arizona--it's a good
place if necessary.
K: I said it at a party; it was meant to be a sarcastic remark. I love
Arizona. In fact my desire to go back to Cambridge is practically zero. There's
a smugness and self-righteousness
R: And a terrible insecurity - -I find Arthur in a terrible position. He's
trying to appease these kids, but they don't stand for anything.
K: Yes, the 1930 liberal is better by far with these kids then you or I.
I've talked with them
