Gov. Nelson Rockefellor/Kissinger
11/10 am
1/19/70
R: I am great. I have been wrapped up in my own problems
K: I missed hearing from you
R: You have yours and I have mine. There have been meetings with the
press, and SO forth. Subways, buses, and SO forth. Two little things. I
understand 16 people have been cleared to see the President this year and
Mr. Balaguer isn't on the list.
K: We are taking care of that in the next two weeks
R: The situation in Venezuela is critical. My suggestion would be, in
view of oil pact, if the President does anything
K: We will keep that screwed up for a year
R: It would help to stabalize the situation in Venezuala, which is working
hard at being a democratic government, to have him up.
K: If we have him, we'll have to have the fellow from Guyana too.
R: That would be great. Also, the little fellow from Uruaguay is the
greatest.
K: That will be harder to sell
R: He's really the greatest and he's fighting hard for democracy. What's
happening in Brazil on the Ambassadorship? Do you keep up XX with that?
K: Not usually. Is Elbrick pulling out?
R: He's definitely leaving.
K: Do you have a candidate?
R: my cousin is interested and he would be good?
K: Aldridge?
R: Yes. He speaks the language and is loved down there and would be
very popular.
K: Right.
R: The Under Secretary. If that goes through but Meyers is openly opposed
to whole thing. He's xbeen taken in by the system.
