K: Nelson, when you come down.
I know you are disappointed by the
lack of support.
R: Not in you.
K: I can get anything done that does not generate a protest higher up
R: If you get undersecretaryship and had a man working with you. Not Meyers
K: Meyers is weak. I am setting up an adviors commitee and moving action
over here. I am mad about those heliocopters. It's just not acceptable that
the Predsident's orders should get circumvented this way.
R: If I can buy some.
K: It's outrageous. I want them to do it the way it's ordered.
R: You need a strong undersecretary.
K: Do you have a candidate?
R: I'm leaning more and more towards Joe Carlino. He's about the ablest
guy I know.
K: Will you be down?
R: I have been most.
K; I have been watching you with admiration. You are a believer in the
frontal attack. After some of my experiences it looks better and better to me.
R: How about the Middle East policy?
K: I don't think you'll see any more dramatic moves like you have seen. They
will quiet down.
R: Is the President going to talk with these gues?
K: The Jewish community? The President is sending them to State and letting
State explain what they have been doing and draw the fire over there. I am
not the man to meet Jewish leaders. I don't want to defend our policy too
much. The problem is the President needs them and then he will have to defend.
R: Sisco has always been against Israel. LBJ sat on him but Rogers won't.
If someone could sit on him.
