K: Two things: On this Spanish business, I can't get to the President
before 11:00. But I think I know his views well enough to tell you to go
ahead. I'11 take the responsibility.
J: Thanks very much; that's very helpful.
K: I'm sertain that he will want to do what is necessary. I'11 take
the responsibility for it, I just want to know
it makes a difference
whether I'm overruling you or supporting you. Secondly, Shimoda wants
to see me urgently this morning.
J: I've just gotten a telegram from Armin this morning. It seems
that what Yoshino gave Trezise yesterday is their last position.
K: What do I tell Shimoda? Can you send me some talking points?
S: Trezise gave me what Yoshino gave him, and his comments.
K: Why don't you just send that over?
J: Okay.
K: I'11 move the appointment with Shimoda to a little later SO I
have time to read it.
J: I'll send Armin's telegram and Trezise comments.
K: You consider that unsatisfactory?
J: Yes, they don't want to change on those 8 categories. r
K: They're really playing a rough game. They said can you be
selective. I said what about the list of 10 or 12. They said ask for 18.
But I never said I would do it.
J: And then Miazawa alledged that I made a proposal, which I
didn't at all. You can't do business this way. I'11 send this over to you
right away.
K: That's what I'11 tell him. I appreciate it, and I'll keep you informed.
