K: The Senator called to find out from you -- he is delivering an off the record
address to Jewish supporters of his. No reporters or publicity. He wants to
know if there's anything hean tel them on Jets to Israel. Is there anything you
can tell us? These are important people to him and his reelection.
HAK: We are keeping a close look. We have made no formal announcements yet.
It's lawfully hard to go beyond what's been said. Have you talked to the
Secretary of State or Sisco?
K: No. Some people we talked to thought you were the one to give the Senator --
HAK: The President is taking a strong personal interest and I can testify that
the Senator's views XXXX weigh heavily with the President.

K: Is there any reassurance XN when we will make an announcement?
HAK: There may not be an annoucement.
K: They are expecting to read it in the newspapers one morning.
HAK: It may not appear that way.

HAK: I don't think we should get into this. We are trying to do a very com-
plicated thing here. He will not be embarrased in his re-election. He is a
strong support of Israel.
K: They can go home encouraged anyway. Thank you very much.
